Today I’m going to share a very honorary and exciting interview opportunity, with huge amounts of fans and the No.1 of technology category ranks in Taiwan, Bao Bo’s Friends Talk from dAb!
To give you a bit of some back story, the original show guest was one of our mutual friends Mr.Otaru, a professor of Shih Chien University. However, due to his tight schedule, and this episode content is about the virtual exhibition which is related to my current job, then he introduces me to join the show to talk with dAb. Much appreciated the recommendation from Mr.Otaru!
I started to follow the legendary dAb since he enrolled at Singularity University as the first and only student from Taiwan in 2014. That’s why I was so overwhelmed when I realized about joining his show. On one hand, the schedule is even tighter and I only have time to prepare after works; On the other hand, although I’m an almost daily podcast listener, it’s still very different from being the show personally. We recorded the show remotely due to COVID. To set up a clean scene for webcam and the audio gear in my messy apartment and chat with my idol, it’s quite unreal~
Generally, I’m not 100% satisfied with all my answers and I’ve tried my best to do so🤪. In hindsight, there are some missing points forget to bring them up. What a shame! On top of that, technology and art is exactly dAb’s main research field, and he spends so much works on the Blockchain and NFT specifically. My answer to his NFT questions barely scratched the surface in the show. Feel so dumb🤷
Therefore, I’d like to make some more thoughts about NFT here, but this is nothing to do with inventment or financial aspects which is even totally confusing territory to me, haha…
💰NFT Ownership and creator💰
NFT did have a huge impact on the “ownership” concept. While pondering the meaning of ownership, I think one of the most important is still the content itself, especially when you can do that at a very low cost and very prevalent fashion. Kind of like the phone camera, take a shot anytime you want. It could be a photo with your family or some meaningful milestone or some music full of your memories, which sometimes could also make you forget the file format. For instance, if hearing some music that reminds your loved one, you don’t care about the audio source is either from Spotify, CD, or whatever and probably can even cancel all the noise around it. The connection with the content helps you dive much deeper into the content itself naturally.
On the other side, from the creator aspect, there are so many possibilities. Art tools keep evolving since forever due to technology development. A free platform like NFT totally opens the doors to all kinds of creators, giving us way more opportunities to explore. Like Jack Dorsey transformed the first tweet into NFT, or it can be even a snippet of code, it really does create so many innovative ideas and make us re-frame the definition of art.
While more tools are available nowadays, it doesn’t conflict with the meaning of ownership. Creator still has to think about the motivation, the idea about what you’re trying to say? Can your audience feel the emotions from the works or have resonance somehow? If we can rethink from the human’s perspective, then to maximize the art value from this new technology, NFT must be one of the keystones that helping us to enter the next digital art era.
Lastly, very grateful to have this chance to talk with dAb, also, about the NFT I have another level of understanding. dAb minted and released one NFT card based on each episode, and I will participate in bidding from this auction.
To me personally, no matter what’s the deal price, the meaning of this NFT is very extraordinary. I’m going to dedicate my first ownership of NFT to my first podcast show!
